A shotgun gives one a certain piece of mind when outnumbered or when one really wants, no NEEDS, to bring the hurt on bad actors.  It's kinda why the po-po still carry them in their cruisers along with their M4's.  If it's good enough for them, wellllllllll, I'm thinkin' it's good enough for us, in the right application.   Don't get me wrong; I still have my 'go to' AR, pistol, and semi-precision SART (Surgical A$$hole Removal Tool).  The shotgun rounds things out nicely, though. With the official start of Spring only 21 or so days away, it's time to start thinking about 'summerizing' your kit as well as your chosen arms.  It's a good time to launder and fortify your 'water resistant' kit while doing your fit adjustments.  Same with your boots; checking seams, repairing w/shoe goo if needed, etc. Might want to replace your winter items in the ruck, too. Unloading, cleaning, and reloading mags goes without saying, right? Then you might want to confirm your zero on your 'go to' with the summer wear kit on.  Your LOP might be a tad different, as items worn don't have the same insulation thickness factor.  Original, here . Tuesday, February 16, 2021 The Sniper Big Four   I write a lot about the big five when it comes to a Ranger. Quick review, they are the five pillars which create the foundation that hold up the modern Ranger or ( historically ) light infantryman ( Rangers are the only true light infantry unit left in the Army. The rest are line infantry ). These pillars are physical training, marksmanship, medical, mobility ( includes land nav ), and small unit tactics ( includes land nav ). Failure to continue to improve or maintain these skillsets regularly will result in erosion and eventual collapse of that pillar. As I reviewed those articles it got me asking myself what are the pillars which hold up the modern sniper? Snipers must have core skills that need to be maintained like the Ranger pillars. These pillars are probably separate and built atop the Ranger big five. Yes, I think that snipers should be selected from a pool of soldiers who have mastered the Ranger big five. ( T
